Who we are

The Canadian Independent Petroleum Marketers Association is a national not-for-profit trade association representing the unique interests of its members. CIPMA members are the backbone of Canada’s fuel distribution and marketing industry. They distribute gasoline, diesel, heating oil, propane, aviation fuel and renewable fuels across a vast geography, to diverse industries, and to millions of Canadian consumers.

What we do

CIPMA’s role is one of industry leadership. We provide governments and the media with the information they need, using extensive research and knowledge of fuel markets and independent fuel marketers’ business models. We often collaborate with other trade associations to better achieve our advocacy goals.

CIPMA’s role extends well beyond lobbying for our members. We add value to our member companies by apprising them of current and impending legislation, major market and regulatory trends, and valuable networking events.

Industry-leading networking events

Each year, we offer the fuel marketing industry opportunities to find out what’s new, what’s coming, how CIPMA is proactively working to sustain the industry, and how best to prepare for regulatory changes.

CIPMA is the proud host of the Canadian Fuel Marketing Conference in the spring where we bring in a slate of industry experts and innovative thinkers to discuss issues currently impacting our industry and trends or opportunities that may affect member companies in the future. In the autumn, CIPMA hosts its Annual CIPMA Golf Challenge.

Both events are open to members and non-members alike and offer marketers, suppliers and other industry stakeholders the chance to network and maintain a competitive edge in our industry. The Board of Directors also hosts an evening in Western Canada where local members, Associate members and invited guests have an opportunity to talk one on one with Board members and other industry representatives and engage with a keynote speaker on a current topical subject.*

Our Mission

CIPMA’s mission is to ensure the sustainability and growth of a healthy and viable independent fuel marketing and distribution sector at both the wholesale and retail levels in Canada. Our specific goals include:

  • Ensuring that independent fuel marketers thrive and have the opportunity to earn a fair and reasonable return that is proportionate to their business risk and capital investment.
  • Ensuring that Canadian consumers and independent fuel marketers have access to a competitively priced and readily available supply of fuel products in all regions of the country.
