Bullet About CIPMA

CIPMA is a national, not-for-profit trade association representing the unique interests of independent non-refiner fuel marketers in Canada. CIPMA was created in 1996 and has grown steadily to become the voice for independent liquid fuel marketers. Leadership for the association is a Board of Directors made up of company executives elected from the membership.

Independents are small and medium sized enterprises whose success is built on strong connections to the communities they serve. Independents do not profit from higher oil prices but rather profitability is enhanced by lower prices. CIPMA members are involved primarily in retailing and wholesaling gasoline, diesel and heating oil. Some members own and operate terminals, bulk plants and cardlocks. CIPMA's members sell or distribute 20% of Canada's gasoline and 20% of Canada's heating oil. CIPMA members account for 11 billion litres annually of gasoline, diesel and heating oil sales.

At all CIPMA meetings, there is strict adherence to the letter and spirit of Canada's Competition Act.

Bullet Mission

CIPMA's mission is to ensure the existence of a healthy independent fuel marketing and distribution sector at wholesale and retail levels. The independent sector provides essential competition, giving Canadians a choice in their fuel purchases. Specific goals are:

      • To ensure there is competitive and liquid supply for liquid fuels at the wholesale level in all regions. The price environment for all liquid fuels in Canada depends on this.
      • To ensure a level playing field exists for independent distributors and retailers of fuels, allowing a return which is commensurate with business risk and capital investment.
      • To provide regulatory and legislative representation at various levels of government to further these goals.
      • To provide a venue for fuel marketers, suppliers and their stakeholders to exchange ideas and foster relationships. CIPMA hosts the annualCanadian Fuel Marketing Conference and theAnnual CIPMA Golf Challenge which are all-industry events.
      Bullet Members

CIPMA's members have operations in all provinces and territories with head offices in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick. They collectively employ over 8,000 Canadians directly or indirectly. Associate CIPMA members represent the industry's most important suppliers and stakeholders and support CIPMA activities through membership fees and sponsorships.
